Vietnam-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership
On March 12, 2025, Vietnam and Singapore officially upgraded their bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP). The announcement was made during an official visit to Singapore by H.E. To Lam, the General Secretary of the of Vietnam, who met with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
This diplomatic milestone carries significant regional weight and outlines a new framework for future collaboration:
A First for Singapore: This marks Singapore’s first-ever Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with an ASEAN member state.
Expanded Focus Areas: While building on their existing 2013 Strategic Partnership, the CSP pushes collaboration into high-tech and future-oriented sectors, including the digital economy, green energy, renewable networks, and carbon credits.
Regional Integration: Both leaders noted that the pillars of this agreement will serve as foundational building blocks for wider regional initiatives, specifically the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement and the ASEAN Power Grid.
